TRUE DETECTIVE

From the Track to the Cross Country Course

True Detective, a 2016 gelding by Shamus Award, enjoyed a stellar racing career under Chris Waller and Gangemi Racing. With 42 starts, five wins and 12 placings, he earned over $700,000 before retiring in Western Australia to begin a new chapter with Kerry Long.

Affectionately known as Dexter, he immediately stood out to Kerry thanks to his distinctive forelock and gentle nature. “I have so much respect for him, having lived the racing life for so long and being so successful,” she shared.

Since joining Kerry, Dexter has transitioned into eventing and show jumping, where his speed and willingness to learn have been invaluable. Kerry hopes to continue progressing through the grades, aiming for one-star eventing and 115cm show jumping.

When reflecting on their journey so far, Kerry says their biggest achievement is watching Dexter transform from a top-tier racehorse into a confident competition partner.

Off the Track WA wishes Kerry and Dexter continued success and looks forward to seeing where their partnership leads next.

Fun Fact: The name ‘True Detective’ pays tribute to his sire, Shamus Award – which also happens to be the name of a prestigious American award for detective fiction.
