WHAT'S UP SNIP
What’s Up Snip, affectionately known as “Larry,” is a 2010 Snippetson gelding bred in New South Wales. His racing career began under the guidance of Quokka-winning trainer Bjorn Baker, where he ran five starts. Larry went on to race with Lyle Rowe, Kelly Sheargold, and finally Ken Laffin, retiring in 2015 with three wins, one third, and earnings of $32,900.
Larry’s transition to his second career began when Jaime Hall’s mother spotted him listed on Facebook. Struck by his striking looks and four white socks, she purchased him sight unseen and had him transported from Queensland to Western Australia in 2015. After a year’s spell, Larry started his retraining. He quickly proved to be a food-motivated and straightforward horse with a competitive spirit and a strong presence in the arena. Jaime, who competed him as Happy As, enjoyed Larry’s positive work ethic and trainable nature.
In 2024, Larry found a new partner in Lana Scully, marking the start of a highly successful year. The pair performed consistently at events such as Future Eventing Capel CCN, Capel CCN, and WAYER Brigadoon. As the season progressed, they dominated in the EvA95 class, taking 1st place across four events: Murray CCN-S, Brigadoon CCN-S, Wooroloo CCN-S, and Gidgegannup CCN.
From racetrack beginnings to eventing excellence, What’s Up Snip has proven his versatility and competitive edge, making him a standout in his new career.
