AFGRI Equipment Apprentice and Trainee Academy: Shaping the Future of Agricultural Innovation
AFGRI Equipment understands that the agricultural sector’s future relies heavily on the expertise of the next generation of technicians and parts interpreters. To support this, the AFGRI Equipment Apprentice and Trainee Academy offers a structured training program aimed at developing skills that meet the evolving needs of the industry. With a commitment to quality and innovation, AFGRI Equipment’s academy not only addresses the immediate needs of its customers but also prepares its workforce for long-term success.
Since its inception in 2019, the academy has grown significantly through a collaboration with Central Regional TAFE, enabling AFGRI to combine academic instruction with hands-on practical training. This comprehensive approach ensures that both apprentices and trainees receive the best of both worlds—learning key skills on the job while receiving classroom-based education that supports their development.
2025 Intake: A Growing Opportunity
For the 2025 intake, AFGRI Equipment is set to recruit 45 apprentices and 10 parts trainees across its 19 branches in Western Australia. Applications are now open, with induction and sign-up planned for late January 2025. Successful candidates will embark on an exciting journey that offers not only professional qualifications but also the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and growing industry.
Apprentices joining the program will work towards earning a Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology (AUR30420). They will assist in tasks such as reassembling machinery after repairs, testing and replacing electrical components, maintaining equipment, and overhauling engines. These apprenticeships span 48 months, during which time students will gain hands-on experience working on a wide range of agricultural and construction machinery, including John Deere equipment.
Parts trainees, meanwhile, will complete a 24-month Certificate III in Automotive Sales (AUR31020), learning skills that are crucial to meeting customer needs. Their training will include managing stock, conducting online transactions, interpreting parts diagrams, and displaying showroom equipment. This role offers a great foundation for a variety of career paths within the agricultural machinery industry, from sales to customer service and beyond).
Building Careers, Not Just Filling Roles
One of the key benefits of AFGRI’s academy is that it provides more than just job training—it offers a clear pathway for career progression. The academy focuses on equipping apprentices and trainees with the skills needed to excel not only in their current roles but also in future positions within the company. Graduates of the academy can look forward to opportunities for ongoing development and career growth, supported by AFGRI’s investment in upskilling and advanced training.
In addition to the qualifications provided by Central Regional TAFE, students will receive in-house training from AFGRI Equipment’s technical advisors. They will also benefit from product-specific education through John Deere University, gaining a deep understanding of the equipment they will work with daily. This holistic approach ensures that academy graduates are fully prepared to contribute to the company’s mission of providing premium service to its customers.
A Collaborative Learning Environment
AFGRI Equipment is more than a workplace—it’s a community. The academy fosters an environment where apprentices and trainees work alongside experienced professionals, learning not just technical skills but also the values that drive AFGRI’s commitment to excellence. Whether working on a John Deere tractor, diagnosing electrical issues in a harvester, or assisting a customer with a parts inquiry, academy participants are trained to uphold the highest standards of service and safety.
Participants are also encouraged to select two preferred branches for their training, allowing them to choose where they would like to begin their careers. With 19 branches across Western Australia, AFGRI offers a wide range of locations for trainees and apprentices to grow their skills, from Albany to Geraldton and from Esperance to Wongan Hills.
