DOUBLE THE PRO

Double The Pro, a 2014 chestnut gelding, had a successful racing career with 36 starts, achieving five wins, six seconds, and nine thirds, earning $109,747. Trained primarily by Peter Fernie, he secured four of his wins in regional areas like Narrogin, Northam, and Kalgoorlie. After retiring in mid-2021, Double The Pro found a new path with Abby Hasleby, who purchased him in August 2021 to retrain him as an eventer.

Affectionately known as Spice, he adapted well to his new role. Abby describes him as having a "lovely cool and collective attitude," making the retraining process relatively smooth despite occasional challenges.

Their competitive debut was at the WA State Showjumping Championships at Serpentine Horse and Pony Club, where they competed in 60cm and 70cm classes. In November 2021, they competed at Yalambi Farm Stud, showing promise with two clear rounds over three days of showjumping.

The 2022 season saw Spice's first eventing start at WAYER International Horse Trials, performing well in dressage and showjumping but retiring early on the cross-country course. They continued to compete, participating in the EvA65 OTTT class at Murray CCN, with a solid dressage score and a clear showjumping round, despite some cross-country challenges.

Most recently, Spice and Abby placed 12th in the EvA95 at the 2023 Gidgegannup CCN, marking significant progress in their eventing journey. Abby plans to continue developing Spice's eventing career, confident in his natural talents and their growing bond.
