SHINJU

Sired by Written Tycoon in 2015, Shinju began his racing career in 2017 under Peter and Paul Snowden. He showed early promise with several seconds and a win before moving to Western Australia to race with Chris Gangemi. After 14 starts with Gangemi Racing, Shinju transitioned to Darryn and then Aaron Pateman, retiring in 2022. Across 35 starts, Shinju achieved five wins, five seconds, and four fourths, earning $194,218.

Sam Cook, an active off the track competitor, purchased Shinju directly after his retirement. Joining her herd, which includes OTTWA Retraining Program graduate Carson Drive, Shinju quickly adjusted to his new career.

“Shin has been the fastest learner I’ve worked with. He retired in September 2022 and was competing by November,” Sam shared.

Shinju has embraced his new journey with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic. A natural in dressage, he also shows growing confidence in jumping. In November 2023, Shinju competed in his first elementary dressage test, showcasing his progress. He also excelled in eventing, winning four consecutive 80cm events and earning a spot on the EA Eventing Leaderboard in his first competition year.

Sam aims to work to solidify their elementary dressage scores and gaining more confidence in cross country. Ultimately she hopes to continue progressing through 95cm in 2024.
