ELIVA VIKING

A 2010 gelding by Murtajill, started his racing career in 2013 under NSW trainer John Thompson, securing two wins and four placings in his first ten starts. After transitioning to John McArdle, Inner Viking competed in various races and was trialed as a hurdle jumper before retiring in 2016 with 25 starts, earning $35,011.

In 2021, Inner Viking found a new path with Nicole Kopke. After a 30-year hiatus from riding following a confidence-shattering fall, Nicole was inspired to return to the saddle when her daughter started riding. She encountered Inner Viking at Team Equistar stables, and despite initial nerves due to his size, Nicole felt immediately safe on him. Their bond grew through a few rides, leading to Nicole purchasing him in April 2021.

Described as having excellent ground manners and a wonderful personality, Inner Viking was initially strong under saddle. With coaching from Rick Dabner, Nicole learned to better understand and ride Viking effectively. He has been a patient and confidence-boosting partner, making Nicole feel safe and supported.

Nicole and Viking now excel in show jumping. They achieved first place in the 1.10m Off the Track class at the 2023 Horseland Young Horse Championships, 1st in the 1.05m AM5, and 6th in the 1.00m AM7 at the Yalambi Autumn Jumping 2024. Their successful season reflects their growing synergy and competitive edge.

Short-term, Nicole aims to focus on clear rounds and improving flatwork. Long-term, she hopes to maintain their health and happiness, enjoying every moment together.
